The Collection Manager Book Review Program

Blackwell is pleased to announce the launch of this program. Here are some of the questions and answers we think interested customers will ask:

When and to whom are reviews available?

Beginning October 2, 2009, reviews are available to all customers using the new Collection Manager.

What reviews are available? Are there more to come?

Reviews from CHOICE, Library Journal, and Publisher’s Weekly are available. Over the next months and years we will expand the program to include as many useful sources as possible. To that end, we solicit your recommendations.

How far back do the reviews in CM go?

CHOICE reviews = Back to September 1988
Library Journal and Publishers Weekly = Back to 2001

Are there any restrictions on viewing these reviews?

Library Journal and Publishers Weekly reviews have no restrictions. CHOICE requires that your library be a CHOICE subscriber (online or journal) to see their reviews in Collection Manager.

Will we be able to search for only those titles that have reviews?

In early 2010 reviews will be fully searchable in Collection Manager. This capability will be unique to Blackwell and Collection Manager, but we will not charge for this additional functionality. We believe this capability and the option to save and automatically run these searches will offer our customers a very powerful collection development tool.

COST INFORMATION

What is the cost for reviews in Collection Manager and how will my library pay?

Reviews from CHOICE, Library Journal, and Publisher’s Weekly are available at NO CHARGE until 31 December.

Beginning 1 January reviews will be available by subscription.

The subscription fee is to defray the cost to Blackwell of licensing the reviews. We have deliberately kept the amount low in hopes that every customer can afford this valuable service.

*It is important to note again that subscribing to the Review Package or just CHOICE reviews does require a separate subscription to CHOICE.

What do we need to do to sign up for this service?

Starting 1 January 2010 you will need to contact either your Regional Sales Manager or your Customer Support Account Manager. We will invoice your library for the appropriate charges, depending on whether or not you subscribe to all reviews or just Choice or Library Journal and Publisher’s Weekly

What if we don’t want to see reviews from all those sources?

If your library prefers no subscription to the reviews or prefers only one of the review sources, please contact your Customer Support Account Manager or Regional Sales Manager at any time before the end of January.  If you are not in touch with your Account Manager or Regional Sales Manager by 1 February, we will automatically shut the reviews off.

What if we don’t want reviews at all?

Again, please let your Customer Support Account Manager or Regional Sales Manager know at any time before the end of January.

INVOICING AND ACTIVATION

When will we be billed for the reviews?

Once you have contacted your Regional Sales Manager or Account Manager and verified that you would like to continue receiving the reviews we will then send out the appropriate invoice.
