Core Approval Publishers, United Kingdom

The list represents, in our experience, those publishers currently producing the main body of titles of academic interest in the UK, Ireland and a few selected European countries. We have included a number of distributors of small presses on this list. The output of these presses will be covered selectively based on suitability of titles.

We will select and supply, either as book or form, titles of academic interest from all publishers on the list with the following broad exceptions: children’s books, do-it-yourself manuals, leisure interests, learning materials, non-book materials, periodicals and books that are low-level/popular and not appropriate for academic library approval plans.

Please note the meaning of the following designations on the list:

Selective coverage, indicated by the symbol ±, denotes that some of the publisher’s titles may be excluded from approval coverage. This designation is used for distributors who may offer titles from various small presses or for publishers who produce a large number of titles that are not suitable for academic and research collections.

The dagger † signifies that, due to the publisher’s terms, Blackwell will send only announcement forms for the publisher’s titles.

The list of publishers will be revised semi-annually to include new publishers and to reflect changes in publisher organisation, ownership and development.
