Ebook Library and Blackwell Book Services Working Together

Thanks to an exciting partnership with EBL, Blackwell customers can now access thousands of scholarly ebook titles with the same acquisition tools and customer service that they have become accustomed to in developing their print collections.

Together, EBL and Blackwell will simplify the process of adding electronic titles to your library by working with you upfront to create an ebook collection complete with MaRC records. We will send you ongoing email announcements, alerting you when we have new ebook titles that match your interests.

Ebooks Are Now Available in Collection Manager™

Now you can use Collection Manager, our free web-based acquisition and collection development system, to browse and purchase ebooks as well as all your print materials. As a Collection Manager user, you can also use our new Selection List feature to view ebooks of interest; while you are there you can also evaluate your own order and approval activity.

Blackwell Book Services Supplies MaRC Records for EBL ebooks

Blackwell Book Services can supply MaRC records. We enhance national cataloging agency records for print books to make them usable as MaRC records for the related ebooks. Blackwell customers accustomed to receiving data (i.e., invoice data) in Blackwell MaRC with Books records, can expect to receive this data in MaRC records for EBL titles as well. Additionally, Blackwell customizes the MaRC records for EBL titles, to include each library’s specific library ID in the URL that points to the complete text of the EBL title. Because EBL titles are part of our MaRC with Books service, our table of contents catalog enrichment service is also available.

Why We Like Working With EBL and Why You Will, Too

EBL’s close collaboration with leading universities, research libraries and key academic publishers has created products and services that librarians are finding superior in flexibility, outstanding selection and ease of use.

Flexibility: Rather than creating a one-size-fits-all solution, EBL focuses on the specific needs of academic and research-based libraries. Librarians may select on a title-by-title basis or they may take advantage of EBL’s Demand Driven Acquisitions option. Whatever the choice may be, BBS and EBL collaborate with libraries to maximize flexibility.

Selection: EBL’s rapidly expanding catalog features recent and relevant content in IT, Health, and Business, with a strong focus on Science, Technology and Medicine (SMT). EBL represents major academic publishers world-wide, including:

Ease of Use: EBL’s progressive lending approach allows patrons to enjoy flexible online and offline access options. Ebooks can be browsed before being borrowed and patrons need only install the latest version of Adobe Reader to download books to their PC, laptop or PDA for offline reading. Librarians can set time limits on titles so the books “check themselves back in” at the discretion of the library.
