Our free web-based acquisition and collection development system now can give you immediate access to ebooks from EBL. We currently have 25,000 plus titles in our database and we will continue adding to that number.
Look for Blackwell special ebook icon that will be displayed on all the ebook records.
Blackwell has an email news subscription service set up for ebook announcements in Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities.
If you are searching just for an ebook title, you can use any of the Collection Manager ’search screens’. You can search by ISBN, title, author and/or distributor. When browsing through the print titles on any subject thesaurus, you may also see the special ebook icon, notifying you that the print title has an alternative edition in an ebook format.
To browse for ebooks in subject areas of interest, simply click on the Preferences button at the top of the screen, and select the ’ebook’ Title Format checkbox found below the Approval Action and Title Source sections. Be sure to change the date range to at least 2 years or more to view the many ebook titles available. After saving your Preferences, you can then go to any subject thesaurus (Blackwell subjects, LC classes or NLM classes) and select a subject area to display the ebook titles. NOTE: Criteria set in Preferences will not affect searches done from Basic, Advanced or Multiple search screens (except title sort.)
You first must set up an ebook account and your ebook platform by contacting a Customer Service Representative at Blackwell Book Services. This will ensure that your ebook account is activated and ready for any orders that you place. An EBL agreement needs to be signed before orders can be processed. Contact information and your library SAN is also required.
Ordering ebooks in Collection Manager is exactly the same as ordering print books. If you have access to order books on Collection Manager, you will see an [Order] link following the ebook title. Click on that link, fill in any optional library order information and then click the Order button on that page.
When you order, the following will happen:
Requesting and exporting ebook records from Collection Manager is exactly the same as for print books. If you have those features enabled in Collection Manager, you will see the corresponding links following the title records.
The ebook titles will always be invoiced separately from your other Blackwell book orders. On the invoice, in the header under the Ship-to address, it will display “eBook Order.” The price that you see displayed in Collection Manager is the list price of the ebook; for those libraries that have chosen to pay an incremental platform fee, that additional fee will be listed separately on your invoice and not embedded in the price of the ebook.
Blackwell Book Services can supply MaRC records. We enhance national cataloging agency records for print books to make them usable as MaRC records for the related ebooks. Blackwell customers accustomed to receiving data (i.e., invoice data) in Blackwell MaRC with Books records, can expect to receive this data in MaRC records for EBL titles as well. Additionally, Blackwell customizes the MaRC records for EBL titles, to include each library’s specific library ID in the URL that points to the complete text of the EBL title. Because EBL titles are part of our MaRC with Books service, our Table of Contents (TOC) service is also available.
For more detailed information on the process and the inclusion of MaRC records with your ebooks download a PDF of our MaRC Records for EBL booklet.
