Every year the Canadian Association of College and University Libraries (CACUL) chooses to award one dedicated librarian with the Miles Blackwell Outstanding Academic Librarian Award. This award, sponsored by Blackwell will be presented to an individual member of CACUL who has made an outstanding national or international contribution to academic librarianship and library development. Individuals nominated have demonstrated achievement in some, but not necessarily all, of the following:
1. Service to the profession through CLA and other related organizations;
2. Planning and implementing an exemplary library program;
3. Publication record which contributes to research in the role of academic librarians or academic library research;
4. Recognition by others for a significant mentoring role in the careers of academic librarians; and
5. Spokesperson or leader who has actively promoted academic libraries and librarianship in Canada.
